FAQ's

When should I arrive?

You should arrive at least 15 min. prior to your first session so we can discuss your health history intake and so that I can do a postural assessment.  Also, at this time, please inform me of any specific modalities that you would prefer during the session – for example, if you would like the session to be devoted to Thai Yoga bodywork.

If you find yourself running late to the session, please call and let me know.  Please be aware that any delay on your part may mean you will not receive the full amount of session time.  This depends on whether other appointments follow your original time slot.

Where will my massage take place?

Your massage session will take place in a warm, comfortable, and quiet room.  You will lie on a comfortable mat on the floor. Soft music may be played to help you relax.  You are welcome to bring your own MP3 player (Iphone or Ipod) if you have a preference on what you would like to hear during your massage.

Will the therapist be present when I disrobe?

For Thai Yoga: You will be fully clothed during your session and you will be asked prior to your session to wear comfortable, loose clothing.

For table massage: I will leave the massage space while you undress to your personal comfort level, relax onto the table, and cover yourself with a clean sheet.  You will have complete privacy during this time.  I will knock twice before re-entering the room.

Will I be covered during the session?

You will be draped properly at all times to keep you warm and comfortable. Only the area receiving work will be exposed. At no point during a massage session should you feel exposed and/or uncomfortable. If you do, please notify me.

What parts of my body will be massaged?

We will discuss areas of work before we begin the massage and before you disrobe and settle onto the table.  This ensures you receive the work you need during your session.  A typical full body session will include work on your back arms, legs, feet, hands, neck, upper chest, and shoulders.

What kind of massage oil or cream will be used?

All massage oils and creams used are 100% USDA Organic & Certified Vegan.  All aromatherapy oils are pure organic essential oils. I believe in using high quality products that are absorbed by the skin.

What should I do during the massage session?

Make yourself comfortable. Deep breathing encourages oxygenation and blood flow to the muscles and fascia (connective tissue), which assists me in my work and relaxes you!  I will either gently move your or tell you what is needed - such as lifting you arm or leg - throughout the session.  Many people simply close their eyes and completely relax.

How will I feel after the massage session?

This will vary since every body and every session is unique, but most people feel very relaxed.  Some people experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity.  After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity, which can last for days.

Please be advised that muscle soreness and fatigue can happen in the days immediately following a massage. This is completely normal. During this time, be sure to stretch and hold each stretch for about 30 seconds to reset muscle lengths. You also should drink a minimum of 8 glasses of water each day to decrease soreness.

Are there any medical conditions that would make massage inadvisable?

Yes. It is very important that your inform me of any health problems you are experiencing, as well as any medications you are taking, before our initial session.  You also should update me on any changes in either of these areas before further sessions.  This will ensure your safety and comfort.  If you are under a doctor’s care, it is strongly advised that you receive a written recommendation for massage prior to any session.
